Cervical Cancer Vaccine

There is a new cervical cancer vaccine out. It prevents cancer! That is amazing. A vaccine that actually prevents cancer.

You would think that there would be dancing in the street.

You would be wrong.

It is recommended that girls get vaccinated before they become sexually active. Since no one can say for sure when they will some states are trying to mandate that all 6th graders get the shot.

Some parents are outraged.

Why?

Because it has do with.....shhhhh.......sex.

They think that it would encourage young girls and teens to have sex.

What?

I doubt that very many girls have any clue what cervical cancer is. It would seem to me that a more pressing concern for girls would be not getting pregnant. So I can't visualize girls having a big sigh of relief because they can now have sex without getting cancer.

It the same thing with condoms. If you let kids have them they will start breeding like rabbits. That is ridiculous. And what happens when the young lady does get married and starts having unprotected sex and gets the HPV virus from her husband? Well without the vaccination she could get the cancer and.......die.

Just another sign of our wacky morals in our country.

The White House

The Bush was asked today if Iraq was in a civil war.

Here is his response.

I'm living here in this beautiful White House, how can I give a first hand account of what is happening in Iraq?

What is he smoking?

Diet Coke Update

I still haven't had a Diet Coke or anything with NutraSweet in it.

And I feel much better.

I sleep better. I think that my head is clearer. Maybe.

I'm not as hungry.

I don't urinate every 15 minutes. Is that too much information?

I thought that some of my occasional joint pain would go away but I guess not.

But....here's the thing.

I obviously have no more physical addiction to the stuff anymore. I would say that that went away after a week or so. But......I still have a psychological addiction. I drank that stuff for so long and it was such an ingrained habit. There isn't a day that goes by that something doesn't cue me to want one...like waking up. That is probably the time that I want one the most. But those feelings are getting much less over time.

And I really get how smokers feel. A friend of mine quit for 6 months and then started again. The whole time he quit he would say, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't want a cigarette. So I get it.

You know what else is weird is I went to McDonald's the other day when I was driving back to Atlanta. I got a chicken sandwich and a bottle of water. I guess because I wasn't coating my taste buds with Diet Coke I could actually taste the sandwich. Yuk. I almost threw up. McDonald's has some nasty food. I guess I never realized that because the Diet Coke was burning my mouth to anesthetize the horror of the McDonald's sandwich taste.

This concludes my Diet Coke update.

Why do I watch the evening news?

I don't know.

The only people watching are me and those over 70.

I guess it's just a habit.

But I can't believe what I saw last night on the NBC news.

There was a story about some nonbinding resolution that the congress was going to make against sending the additional 20,000 troops to Iraq.

First, if it's nonbinding, who cares? This is just something that they can put in their TV ads during the next election.

But...here is the nauseating part.

NBC showed 2 clips from Republicans making their speeches against the resolution.

One said that it would dishonor the fallen soldiers to not win and pull out now. So that must mean that it honors them by having no plan and seeing more of their comrades killed and maimed. No logic there.

Then the second one said the most absurd thing that I thought that people had stopped saying. He said, "if we leave Iraq, they'll just follow us home". Well if they do I'm sure it will be by walking across the Mexican border that the Bush et al don't want to secure.

I thought that those scare tactics were over. It sounds so hollow. But I guess that there are still some in America who fall for that nonsense.

Remember after 9/11 all the talk of securing our water supply, electrical grid, nuclear power plants etc? Well you don't hear that anymore and I'm sure that none of it was done. So instead of saying stupid things like that about Iraq, why don't the Republicans who make such absurd statements actually do something to protect our country....like securing the things mentioned above...and maybe even our borders.....but I'm sure that we'll keep focusing more attention on screening passengers to the max at the airport so we can feel the illusion of security and that our government is actually doing something and cares.

Anna Nichole, Obama and Iraq

Anna Nichole is such a sad story. One tragedy after another. It's like watching a car wreck. I'm pretty sure that constant TV coverage and 4 nights of Larry King are just a little bit ridiculous. OK, a lot ridiculous.

I was talking to someone the other day and they told me that there is no way they would vote for Barack Obama. I said, what do you know about him that makes you dislike him so much? They said that they knew nothing about him but they were sure that they could find a Republican to vote for. They won't even listen to what he has to say. Or any Democrat for that matter. I don't know yet what Obama does stand for because the race hasn't really started. But I do know that God gave me a brain and that I will at least listen to all sides and make an informed decision. People like that make me nuts. Use your brain please. That is exactly how we got in the big mess in Iraq. We all wagged our tails and nodded our heads while the Bush went to war.

Now to Iraq. Remember. Thought I would remind you since we're all obsessed with Anna Nichole and her lover, Zsa Zsa Gobor's husband...the prince.

I'm Back

I've been on vacation in the sunny Caribbean. And it was very nice. I wish I was still there.

This happens to me every time I go on vacation. I don't watch TV except for Andy Griffith reruns. And I don't read the newspaper. And I don't care whats going on in the world.

So when I come back, just the sight of Wolf Blitzer, who I don't like anyway, or some other talking head ranting about whatever...you know what? it makes me nauseated. Yuk.

I really don't care about Iraq anymore. It is so screwed up it is comical.

And that is very sad. Especially for the people who are being blown up and maimed or killed every day.

Another interesting thing happened on my vacation.

I have no idea who I'm going to vote for in 08.

Maybe Hillary maybe McCain although I doubt it. Who knows. I know nothing about Hillary.

But what amazes me is that just the mention of her name brings such a visceral response. People really hate her. They usually don't have any reason they can articulate...they just hate her. Well somebody likes her because she's a second term senator and she thinks enough people like her that she's running. So why are people so afraid of saying that they like her. It's like admitting you're a child molester or something. Very weird.

I want to go back to the beach!
