Everything Happens For A Reason

No it doesn't.

I hear this more and more.

A really nice flight attendant I was flying with was in real pain. She was going through a nasty divorce. You could feel the pain and hurt. I said I was sorry and she said don't worry. Everything happens for a reason.

Where did that come from? What does that mean?

I did a search on google and it came up with somebody who wrote a book about that.

I think it's a perversion of the Bible.

Romans 8:28 says "And we know in all things God works for the good of those who love Him who have been called according to His purpose."

It's sad to think some are just floating through time and space and their lives thinking that they have no control. Everything is OK and happens for a reason.

What is the basis for this? That is a very powerful statement and belief and it seems strange that so many would subscribe to it without having any clue what the underlying belief is.

The Tooth Fairy

The guy I just flew with has three boys. The oldest is 11. He just had a baby tooth fall out and he put it under his pillow. His parents forgot to put money under the pillow and when he woke up he was devastated that the "tooth fairy" had forgotten him.

Hello?

11 years old?

Is this normal?

I, of course, using my extensive level of tact did not say anything. But what kid who is 11 still believes in the tooth fairy or Santa Claus?

Kirk to Enterprise, come in please. McFly?

The Legal Technicality Loophole

I love it when someone says, "they got off on a technicality". Like the police had no probable cause to search, or they violated the accused rights.

It's not a technicality. It's what the rules are. Otherwise, we could just string up whoever we wanted to like the good old days. Yooo Hooo! No due process.

"Technicalities" are there for a reason. To protect people.

I hope that you or me are never accused of anything, but if we are, I want all the technicalities please.

Profile Review Hits

When I look on my profile review hits, the number stays the same for several weeks and then all of a sudden jumps 30-40. What's up with that?

Does blogger not update the number very often?

Grand Tetons

It is so beautiful here. It's hard to describe. Above are some picutres.

They had a very interesting site that showed the original cabin of a homesteader in the 1800. Mud roof and floor and two tiny little rooms. That doesn't sound like fun in the winter.

The Yellowstone Bates Motel

I am on my Yellowstone/Grand Teton Park Vacation.

I've stayed at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite, run by the park service. Awesome hotel.

So, you would think that a $200/night hotel in Yosemite would be equally great. Wrong.

The scenery is awesome. Right on Yellowstone Lake. The outside looks nice, doesn't it.

The inside is nasty. The picture of the bed is much nicer than it really is. The bed and furnishings were bought I believe in 1944. The bathroom floor had enough hair on it to make a nice wig.

Also, THE HOTEL HAS NO TV!

So the picture of the chairs is to show what you're supposed to do all night long. I guess. Sit in those nasty chairs in the dark and stare at other equally bored people. No grand fireplace. Nothing.

So, I go down to the front desk after seeing the room and tell the nice lady this isn't exactly what I was expecting and what are my options? She told me what bridge I could jump off of. No refunds inside of 48 hours. I'm not cancelling, I just think it sucks.

So, $59 later in West Yellowstone, we stayed at a really nice Fairfield Inn with TV!

In the Pilot Lounge

At work yesterday I saw something truly remarkable.

The buzz in the pilot lounge was that most guys are looking for another job.

Either a replacement job or another job. One guy has a limo business, another is applying to Fedex after 17 years at Delta.

So what I need is all of you to send me some money. I would be happy to give you the paypal account.

Look, 300 million people in the USA, everybody send me a quarter, that's alot of money.

And, I promise I'll give some to charity.

How about it folks. I don't want to drive a limo.

The Crack

To further illustrate how screwed the airlines are....

I just learned that there is something called the crack price.

What could this be you ask.

I'll tell you.

If a barrel of oil is $65, that's only the beginning.

To turn it into jet fuel, they have to crack it or refine it. The price to do that used to be about $1-2 a barrel. It is now $58 a barrel. Which mean that airlines are paying not $60 a barrel, but almost $120/barrel.

Fun and interesting, huh?

USA Today

I wasn't going to watch the news anymore or read newspapers.

But at work yesterday, the hotel gave me the USA Today and I read it.

It's so tempting.

All those pretty pictures and everything. And if I hadn't read it then I wouldn't have known that Kathy Griffin, (comedian) is getting divorced.

What would I have done without that news?

Dr. Laura

I heard Dr. Laura on XM radio yesterday. I haven't heard her forever. I thought she was living in a cave. She just disappeared. I guess she has paid her punishment and now is released back on the world.

Her advice is so so. I really don't have a problem with it. If you want to call her, go ahead.

But, she is so nasty. Sarcastic, cutting, mean, and cruel to her callers.

Caller: "I know."

Dr. Laura snaps, " Don't say I know, if you knew you wouldn't be calling me."

Caller: "Like I said"

Dr. Dingdong: "don't say like I said, if you said it once then I heard it, don't say it again."

It's amazing that people still call her when she is so incredibly hateful.

" I love you Dr. Laura, you're the best."

And then she nukes them with really nasty remarks.

Oh well. At least she doesn't work for the airlines.

The Army Reserve TV Ad

This is really offensive. I would hope that no one would fall for it.

If you want to go into the Army or Army Reserve, great.

But this ad is very misleading.

A kid is talking to his Dad about going in the Army Reserve. His Dad says, the Army!? Kid says no, the Army Reserve. They'll train me here until they need me.

Which by the way will be about 4 seconds after training where you will go to Iraq and quite possible get blown to smithereens looking for Al Queda and weapons of mass destruction.

Please be forewarned.

Survivor

Survivor is good this year. Finally.

First, they are beating the crap out of them. Good!

Second, a brilliant idea. They brought back two people from last season and put one on each team. That way you have someone who you are familiar with right from the start. Very smart.

I wish on reality shows though they would have real people. Not just hot, buff, boys and girls.

They need my Aunt Martha, and maybe my very disagreeable Uncle Bert. Now that would be a show.
