I am, at least for the moment, not watching the news, reading the newspaper, or listening to garbage on the radio. So I have no idea what's going on and I don't care.
The only thing being informed does is make me angry and crazy. So it's better not to know.
Although I have been watching the 30 minutes of network news at 6:30. That's pretty watered down so I don't get to miss Bob Scheiffer's stupid questions.
So what to write about. I guess nothing.
I'm going to Jackson Hole, Wyoming in a week so I guess I'll post more pics about that and then when that's over I can talk about my cats.

Vermont

So, what I liked about Vermont.
People drive normally and actually kind of slow.
Natural beauty. Social consciousness.
Burlington is a great University town on the lake.
People are nice.
Of course, I wasn't there in the winter, but I think that there would be so much to do in the snow it would be a good time.
I suffer from no light disease. Without sunlight I don't do well, so I guess I would have to get one of those lamps and sit in front of it each day.

I found Nirvana in Vermont

Vermont is awesome. That is where I went on vacation.
Almost everyone there thinks that Bush is a moron. I've never seen so many impeach Bush signs in my life. And the natural beauty is unbelievable.
Here are some pics of Vermont.
More about it later.
I have a cold and am heavily medicated.

My Neighborhood
In reference to the previous post, let me clarify where I live.
My next door neighbors are the Stevens family. Very nice. Darren and Samantha. Although, I don't like their mother-in-law Endora. She's weird. We've used their babysitter often. Her name is Esmorelda.
Down the street is a lovely family, the Brady's. The are really special. They both lost their spouses. He has three great boys and she has three pretty girls. The all have hair of gold like their mother, the youngest one in curls. Marcia is trying out for cheerleading tomorrow.
Then there is this freak at the end of the cul-de-sac that dresses up in this costume and thinks he lives in a cave. AND he lives with a boy named Robin. The nerve.
The Cleavers next to the weirdo are horrified. June wants Ward to move and she really gets angry because he gets mad and takes it out on the beaver.

How to Fix the Airline Mess
When Delta and Northwest airlines went bankrupt last week, it was the latest blow to an industry plagued by poor management, combative unions and huge pension burdens.
Gordon Bethune, the former CEO and savior of Continental Airlines, says the government has only made the problem worse
By GORDON BETHUNE
With four major U.S. carriers in bankruptcy, the U.S. airline industry is at breaking point, and something needs to be done. The best way to fix the industry is to fix the government's role in it. For one thing, the marketplace should be picking the winners, not the government. For another, the government should also stop weighing down the survivors with unreasonable burdens.
The industry was deregulated in 1978, but you wouldn't know it from all the extra baggage it carries. The main offenders: ever increasing taxes, lack of government spending to build a modern air-traffic-control system and airports, and countless rules imposed without consideration of how the airlines can afford to comply. All told, the airline industry is the most regulated "deregulated" business out there. The government, oddly, has been too tough on airlines in some respects (through taxation) and too accommodating in others (through anticompetitive legislation such as the Wright Amendment, which limits flights out of Dallas). The industry can be saved, but these actions must be taken swiftly:
TAXES
They have to be made more rational. Congress has found the ultimate cash cow in the U.S. airlines, which pay 14 separate taxes. The Air Transport Association says the industry is going to lose $10 billion this year, but the government is taking $15.2 billion in special aviation taxes and fees. If the industry were to pay only one-third of its taxes for 2005, it might break even! Few passengers realize that more than 20% of the average $200 ticket is taxes and fees. The government is hooked on those revenues like a junkie and can't seem to get off. Even today, one Florida Congressman is advocating more security fees for airline passengers. With that kind of wrongheaded legislation, it's no wonder Congress bears a huge responsibility for the sorry state of the industry.
BAILOUTS
The government and manufacturers have got to stop bailing out the weak at the expense of the strong. Keeping airlines on artificial life support is not a long-term benefit to anyone--and distorts the market. Additionally, government reform to allow mergers among carriers would help stabilize the industry. We don't need 20 airlines to provide competition. New entrants will always keep others from dominating a market.
INVESTMENT
Our government must put billions of dollars into aviation infrastructure, from airports to air-traffic control to security. This needs to be done in a rational way, without rhetoric, turf wars and political pork. We need real leadership at the national level to set a game plan and stand up to members of Congress who want to waste money on local boondoggles.
It's time Washington started recognizing that everyone benefits from aviation. Though military, business and private aircraft all use the infrastructure, U.S. commercial carriers primarily carry the costs. Why shouldn't a corporate hotshot in his Gulfstream jet pay a fair share to use the same services? And why should everyday passengers pay for an airport that no commercial airline can ever serve? It's unfair that airline security costs (to protect our citizens from attack from the air) are paid for predominantly by passenger ticket taxes. Since everyone benefits, why not use some of the revenue collected from everyone on April 15? Lastly, we must remove political influence on day-to-day operations. Get the government out of the business of regulating minutiae like "peanut-free" zones on some flights, as was attempted some time ago.
While airlines are often their own worst enemy, by doing things like thwarting pension reform or holding out on needed fare increases, they can make progress with some enlightened government guidance. Let's forget the handout approach, and let them fight it out in a truly deregulated marketplace.
My Comment:
I agree with everything Gordon says. But even more needs to be done because the problems he states have been going on for years. The damage to the airline industry by the government is massive. There must be some restitution.

The Employee Bus
My first ride on the employee bus after the bankruptcy announcement and filing was weird.
Usually there is a lot of chatter, laughing, people talking on their phones, but this time it was like we were going to a funeral. No sound. Just the loud bus.
The employees look like they had been hit over the head with a metal pipe. Maybe they're still in shock. It looks that way. Or maybe deep despair.
The passengers on the other hand, while not saying anything directly, were unusually nice. I wonder how long that will last?

The Naughty Nipple
We live in a really weird country.
I'm watching a show on Discovery Health Channel. They are showing people that Drs left stuff in them after surgery. ooops. Luckily, that only happens 1 in 15,000 operations.
Anyway, they are showing the scar on this lady's breast. They show everything but they blur out the nipple. I didn't know the nipple is so offensive.
They can show some large man with breasts at least as big as her's and they show the nipple.
I say to you, why no nipple?

Racism in Public Schools
So this guy on XM radio, some "expert" is saying that if a school is all black and has no white kids in it that it is racism. We were supposed to integrate the schools, which we did with busing. But now the Supreme Court et al over the past years have reversed that idea and we are back to all white or black or Hispanic schools.
I think that is racist and wrong to assume that you need white kids in a school to make it good. That is ridiculous. If the problem is that the black school is not receiving the same funds as white schools then fix that problem. Don't integrate the schools on the premise that an all black school is bad.
Based on that logic, we should move everybody to different houses and have 3 whites then one black three white and then an Asian etc.
Kids don't want to be integrated for integration sake. They don't care. I'm sure if you went into a school that had busing to integrate the school and you went into the lunch room, by and large the white kids would be at one table and the black kids at another. More segregation would occur because the jocks would be here, the druggies there, the band members over here and the nerds shoved in one corner.

AIRLINES: In 1978, the airline industry was deregulated and the Civil Aeronautics Board was effectively disbanded. Since then, over 100 airlines—let me say that again: over 100 airlines—have gone bankrupt or been liquidated, including a cool dozen of the majors. That includes the six—SIX—that are in Chapter 11 Thursday: Delta, Northwest, ATA, US Air, United, and Hawaiian. Before that: Braniff, Midway, Continental, PanAm, Eastern, and TWA (and I'm missing some). Since deregulation, the average price of an airline ticket has dropped significantly, and on an inflation-adjusted basis has dropped even more. But at what cost? First, customer service has absolutely gone from bad to worse. Horrible! No food, no legroom, no ticket clerks, no flight attendants, no baggage. And, of course, except for investors in LUV, everyone who's put money in has lost money. And what about the employees? Hundreds of thousands of Americans have worked in this business over the past. Many thousands, especially in the lower ranks, have gotten screwed (not so much the greedy pilots). So what did get from all this? Cheap tix, yes, but at a cost of everything else. Was it worth it? Not suggesting we go back to the days of the CAB, but we sure do need a plan here. Example #237: Markets by themselves can't cure everything.
Me again. Not him. I agree with everything he says except of course his slam on greedy pilots.
That is a shot that no one can resist. I have no idea why. Why does he think I'm greedy.
Is Leo Mullin our ex-CEO who left with 16 million plus, not counting the other millions he left with after 5 years of destroying Delta, does he qualify as greedy? No mention of him.
I wonder if passengers think I'm greedy when the airplane is on fire or loses all electric or hydraulic power. And I safely get them back on terra firma?
We greedy pilots agreed to a 32.5% pay cut to stay out of bankruptcy. The other employees took 5% or less. I'm the greedy one?
A Southwest Captain makes 25% more than a Captain at Delta on the same aircraft.
They're the lowcost airline?
25% before we take our next pay cut.
What does he think a fair wage for us is? That's the magical question.
I guarantee he thinks we only work 75 hours/month.
We get paid for 75 hours/month. We only get paid for actually flying the airplane. All of the other time is not paid. So if you have a 12 hour day and fly 4 hours....ding ding ding...you get paid for 4 hours. Not to mention 15 days a month I'm not home.
I think I need to throw this computer out the window and stop reading anything.

W's Nationwide Address
First of all, I promise here and now to in the near future say something positive about W. I'm working on it; bear with me.
OK. Now to the speech.
He said that New Orleans is below sea level! He pledges to have the Army Corps of Engineers make New Orleans safe.
If he had not cut funding in years past it would have been safe and we wouldn't have the problem we have now.
He said that he will encourage entrepreneurs to start businesses and provide jobs. Actually, the whole speech sounded like campaign 2004. Anyway, entrepreneurs are great and they will create jobs. Just not good ones. Let's say that you start a pizza place, UPS Store, McDonalds, you make T-Shirts, whatever. Are you going to provide health insurance? Are you going to be able to pay a livable wage? No. So much for entrepreneurs.
His next point is that he will provide money so that people can get training and get an education.
Great. However, when you do get trained and get your education you'll need to move to India or China since that's where all of the skilled jobs have gone. Please send a post card.
I also find it condescending and offensive that George assumes that most of us are uneducated and unskilled. He said as much during the campaign. Someone asked him what he would say to someone who lost their job to someone overseas. He said that they should go to school and get an education. Followed by his stupid giggle. Who said they were uneducated?
In the George rearified air he just doesn't get it.

Who Pays Next Time?
Now that I have taken my medication, let's talk about the Gulf Coast rebuilding.
We all know that you and I will pay big time for this while Bush, Cronies, et al will make gazillions on this rebuilding project.
So what happens when we get it all rebuilt real pretty like, and two years from now another one of those pesky gosh dern hurricanes blasts them again? Do we do it all over again? What if the levies ain't built right yet? And New Orleans floods again? More dead bodies?
You and I pay more and more I guess. I wonder what the limit is?
Is there a limit? Just print more and more money. That's the way.
Of course with most jobs in the USA paying crap wages and the good one's going overesas it doesn't really matter, does it?

I'm Not Very Happy
I think that my airline, Delta, going into bankruptcy sucks.
Is that clear enough?
Last year the pilots took a 32.5% pay cut and gave up 1/2 of our contract. We gave the company 1 Billion dollars/year in give backs. We of course are vilanized by anyone who makes less money than we do.
How about going to pilot training for a year in the military. Go to their fabulous survival school that lasts 3 weeks complete with deluxe simulated POW camp. Serve your country for at least 9 years while people are trying to kill you.
Then be one picked from thousands of applicants to get hired by Delta. Have them tell you that you will never need another job and that you have won the lottery. Your hard work, skill and dedication has paid off. Congratulations.
This sucks.
Now we are going to take further pay cuts and that still won't do it. I don't think that any airline will ever survive unless something fundamentally changes. Like reregulation.
We need airlines. Not jst so called low cost airlines that fly to a few places.
The airline industry is finally getting done to us what was done to the steel industry, automobile, banking, etc as workers lose their jobs, pensions, and good middle class way of life while the gov'ment taxes us more and sits there and does nothing. Actually they do something, they encourage the demise to happen. They love it!
This sucks.

Delta and Northwest Airlines Declare Bankruptcy
Delta and Northwest today at almost the exact same time went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Am I supposed to believe this is a coincidence?
The legislators in Georgia are horrified and pledging to assist Delta in any way they can. Hello?
Did you just notice that the airline industry is in trouble?
Of course the reason that the airlines in America are almost all bankrupt is because of the dirty, rotten, overpaid, primadonna, airline pilots. How dare they. Just because they are highly trained, skilled, scrutinized, tested, sifted, and a large portion of them either still in the military reserves or veterans, we should pay them a good wage? Just because with one mistake they can kill 400+ people. Can a neurosurgeon do that? No, he can only kill em one at a time.
The government taxes airline tickets at about 40% on a $100 dollar ticket. No wonder we can't make money. Not to mention our moronic management that is beyond incompetent. Yet they leave with millions.
I certainly hope everyone enjoys flying on Southwest since they soon will be the official carrier of the USA. The only one left.
Just the further Walmartization of the USA. Kick labor right in butt or another body part. Screw them and all USA workers. Hoooorray for the USA!

The Religious Right and Uncle Pat
There is a fascinating documentary on the Sundance Channel, whatever that is, about the rise of the religious right.
It starts with Jimmy Carter in 1976 saying he was a born again Christian. The news media didn't know what to make of that or evidently who Jesus was. That is amazing to me. 2000 years after Jesus arrived and the Christian message had been proclaimed for that long and Carter says he's born again and a Southern Baptist and they look at him like he's a Martian.
Some of the news clips and interviews are amazing.
BUT, the most amazing part of the piece is the rhetoric that Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell spew.
As early as 1976, they were saying that the country was going to collapse, blah blah blah, unless we elected a pope. Well they thought they did with Reagan. They wanted a school prayer amendment back then but congress said no.
It's the same old stuff. 30 continual years. The same scare tactics and rhetoric. What has really been accomplished? Other than getting who they want elected, nothing.
There still isn't school prayer. Abortion is still legal. And gays haven't been sent to a remote island just yet.
I had no idea this had been going on for this long. Did you Marge?

F.A.A. Alerted on Qaeda in '98, 9/11 Panel Said By ERIC LICHTBLAU WASHINGTON, Sept. 13
- American aviation officials were warned as early as 1998 that Al Qaeda could "seek to hijack a commercial jet and slam it into a U.S. landmark," according to previously secret portions of a report prepared last year by the Sept. 11 commission. The officials also realized months before the Sept. 11 attacks that two of the three airports used in the hijackings had suffered repeated security lapses.
If the crew of the AA and UAL airplanes knew of the above intel and threat they would have acted much differently. Look at how the passengers of UAL flight 93 acted when they found out via telephone on the aircraft that terrorists were using the aircraft as missles.
A hurricane happens and are we ready? No.
9/11 and are we ready? No.
Are we ready for anything? No.
What the ameerican public is ready for is more gluttony, copious spending, and more sticking our head in the sand.

Bush...OK Let me try this tactic
George W. yesterday said people were trying to play the blame game.
Today his handlers I guess got tired of his rotten approval ratings and thought, hmmmm, I wonder how the truth would work. Or at least our version of the truth.
W. admitted that the federal gov'ment dorked everything up, well he didn't admit that much, but he kinda sorta said that maybe kinda they didn't do a very good job and if they sorta kinda didn't that he was probably maybe sorta going to accept the blame for maybe some or part or all or whatever you dirty SOB Americans want him to do so you will all leave him ALONE.
Is that clear enough?

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Supreme Court Hearings
Wow. They should tape these hearings and use them as a non drug alternative to help people sleep.
Other than the senators getting really good face time on TV I don't really think that anything of substance gets done here.
Also, in 2005, rarely does anyone say anything nonscripted on TV. The best times are when they say something and don't know their mic is on.

I love the CBS Evening News
The reason is the anchor Bob Scheiffer. He took over for Dan Rather.
Bob is 150 years old. Here's what I like about him.
When a reporter is finished with his story they cut back to the reporter and he says that's all back to you Bob. Bob is supposed to keep reading the news. But instead he asks the reporter some crazy and sometimes in an actual lucid moment, a question that makes sense. The reporter has no idea what the question is and since they are off of the script he says um and duh alot.
Great TV! Actually, must see TV.

Wouldn't it be nice?
On this last trip I did, I saw several instances of others helping Hurricane Katrina's victims.
On one flight, the gate agent brought a lady on the aircraft before anyone else and told us that she was a Katrina survivor. She had spent 3 days under an underpass on I-10 with no food or water. The gate agent gave her a hug and wished her well. We all took good care of her on that flight.
I see the same spirit of humanity that I saw after 9-11. Other people being kind and courteous to others.
Wouldn't it be nice if that spirit would stay like that forever?

W. Does something right, sort of
W. Finally fired that incompetent FEMA guy, Michael Brown and replaced him with a 3 star Coast Guard Admiral.
He sort of fired him. He made up some lame excuse that Brown was needed in Washington to help plan for the next disaster and the three star would take care of the details in the hurricane area.
Why not do what you should George. Say he screwed up, fire him, and send him back to wherever he came from.
But, at least for the people of New Orleans, MS, and AL they have someone incompetent now.

I love infomercials
I love to watch infomercials. I never buy anything, but for some reason they fascinate me.
QVC is fun too. How can they talk for so long about nothing. I would stand up there and say,
"here is this thing that can chop stuff up. See? really cool. here's the phone number. If you're stupid enough to buy this piece of crap made in China call this number. Hurry. We only made 25 million of them." Then I would be done. And that took 30 seconds. But they can talk for ever!
That is such a talent. And talk about absolutley nothing. And they're so excited! And happy!
I bet someone buys thier fuel for them or maybe sends a car to pick them up to go to work.

Meanie Soledad
Why is Soledad O'Brien so mean. She is hateful and nasty to almost everyone. Does she have to buy CNN their fuel? Maybe that's it. I wish they would dump her and get a happy anchor. Someone who can be cheerful while people die on camera. That's what we need. Not a meanie.

The music has changed
I just thought I would report that the CNN hurricane music has changed.
It used to be ominous. Impending doom. Destruction.
Now, it's kind of like sad movie music.
Probably in a few weeks or less we'll be back to the normal CNN music.
Who makes this music up? I want that job. That way I won't have to buy my company fuel anymore. I wonder if the CNN music dude has to pay for his own music?

Give money to help the company
The airline I work for is in dire straights because of fuel prices. In August our airplanes were 80% full. That seems like a lot. But management tells us that we can't charge what it costs to operate the airplanes for a profit. Ridiculous.
Now, hear this. This is incredible. All employee groups have taken pay cuts, benefit cuts, etc because of managements buffoonery. So now some employees want to help the company even more. They want to establish a fund that we can contribute to to buy the airline fuel. What? Hello? You can contribute from your 401K, paycheck whatever. That is nonsense and most every employee agrees. But the company set up the fund anyway.
I'm not going to pay their light bill, or bring my own toilet paper. It's a business. Charge the appropriate amount for you tickets. Duh?

The W. News Channel
The W News Channel aka The Fox News Channel the other day was blaming all of the mess in the gulf on local officials. I thought we weren't going to play the blame game. The republicans have their spin machine on full blast. I was talking to a coworker the other day and she said she had watched the O'Reilly factor on Fox and O'Reilly said that W did everything right and that the local officials were to blame. What ever happened to having your own mind and ideas. Usually when someone expresses an opinion it's generated from what the news media has told them to say. Or their politcal leanings or group. Why be such a dogmatic Bush supporter. He can do no wrong?
You lose all credibility with me when you always support one side or the other. That tells me that you are a mindless robot incapable or unwilling to think for yourself.

Walmart and George H. W. Bush
The first George was on Larry King the other night trying to defend their son on TV. It was a challenge.
What really caught my attention was the remarks Barbara made about Walmart. She praised them for paying their employees who were displaced from the storm and then almost became teary when she told us that at least 40 Walmart stores had been destroyed. At least 40 is a start. If we could just get hurricanes to get all the Walmarts now we'd be cookin.
So what will happen is this. The Chinese better get even busier making the crap that Walmart sells to us. Because were going to need a lot of it after this hurricane. And we better start making some more oil to ship all of the crap that they make from their 2 cent/hour workers who are taking our jobs. And all of those ships shipping that crap can put even more exhaust and pollution into the air so we can have more hurricanes and hopefully destroy more Walmarts.

Condaleeeeza's Shoes
It is reported that while people were drowning, dying, etc. Condaleeza was buying thousands of dollars worth of shoes in NYC. When a citizen approached her in the store and asked her how she could be buying shoes while people were dying in New Orleans, the infidel was removed from the store (I should clarify, the infidel was the lady who asked the question although we all know that Condy is the real infidel).

George W., Please say "You're Fired"
Imagine what a hero W. would be if he would have had yet another press conference and admitted that the hurricane response was atrocious. He could have Chertoff, the Homeland Insecurity Chief on his right and the FEMA guy on his left.
After he admitted that it was all screwed up he could turn to each one of them and in his best Donald Trump imitation tell them they are fired. Take some responsibilty for it.
W. says he doesnt want to do the "blame game" just yet. Why not? Those two guys are obviously morons. Get rid of them. Why keep them for one more day?
The "blame game". Isn't it interesting also that the politicians don't have an original idea in their head. Once the handlers and spinmeisters coined the blame game phrase, they were all off to the races to say it as many times as they can on TV. Please.

Our Uncaring and Corrupt Government
On October 17th, the bankruptcy law will change. This bill was pushed through by the credit card companies who George W. is more than willing to assist.
Other than being a rotten law and really hosing people that have lost everything due to illness etc, could there be worse timing after this hurricane?
Because of George W's buffoonery, thousands will go bankrupt because of this disaster. And they are soon to be totally screwed by this new law. With the minimum wage at $5 something an hour, how could anyone making that possibly save for a rainy day? Let me rephrase that, a very big rainy day.
Do we not have any compassion for humanity?

No TV, Newspapers, Magazines, No Nothing
My sister does not own a TV or read any newspapers or magazines. Unless they involve decorating or fashion. She is a very happy person.
This is a true story. When the OJ Simpson trial was going on I asked her what she thought about it and she said who's OJ? She and her art friends are clueless.
I wonder if that is a good way to be. Seems a lot less stressful. What good does it do to be up to date. In the old days, you maybe saw the daily paper, saw that there was a hurricane in New Orleans, felt bad for the people for about 15 seconds and went about your day. Now it is mayhem, destruction, crisis in the heartland etc, 24/7. It's making me and everyone else crazy.
So maybe we should all just throw our TVs out the window and live like the Europeans do. Take a nap every afternoon and chill.

What's the next preventable big one?
The government knew that it was very possible that someone would use an airliner as a missile and crash it into a building. However, cockpit doors were never reinforced, the hijacking procedures were outdated and nothing was done to prevent this from happening.
For decades, scientists and others have been warning of the possible and inevitable New Orleans disaster. What was done to prevent or prepare for it? Nothing.
So, it makes me wonder, what other disasters or information does the government know about and they aren't doing anything about it? What's next?
There will be a next one. How much longer will the American people put up with the gross incompetence in Washington. They don't care about us. Only about their corporate cronies and the dollar.
So, again, what's the next preventable disaster?

Now I am going to Barf
OK. Now on Meet the Press they are interviewing the REPUBLICAN Governor of Mississippi, Haley Barbour. He of course thinks that the federal response from FEMA and other federal agencies has been just fabulous. He is willing to sell his soul for political republican federal favor.
That is reprehensible. The real people on the ground tell a different story. The pictures tell a different story. The earth screams the truth. How stupid does he think we are? How do politicians like that sleep at night?

Accountability and Weenies
Wouldn't it be refreshing to hear the Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff to accept responsibility for the fiasco. Tim Russert from NBC news told him the Senator from Louisiana gave him a grade of F. What do you say about that? Blah Blah Blah. We are focusing on recovery. There will be time for analysis. Be a man, say it sucked, and I'm responsible.
Stop being a politician little weenie.
This is why it was a mess. No one takes responsibility. Weenies, weenies, weenies.
How can he show his face on TV. Does he have no shame? How can he be that arrogant and dilusional?

Tick Tock, Won't be long now
The coverage of the hurricane is very slowly and on some stations not so slowly waning.
We now have the death of Supreme Court Chief Rhenquist. As diferent news stories come the focus will be less hurricane. Won't be long now before the real misery will set in for the victims.
No real news. Months in hell in camps. I wonder when we'll get back to the war?
The next 6 months at least for all of the families is not going to be pretty.

Modern Comforts vs The Good Old Days
A reporter on CNN was just talking about the conditions in Gulfport, MS. I'm very happy I'm not going through that. No running water. No airconditioning. He said that the heat yesterday was almost unbearable.
Can you imagine living there 100 years ago? No running water. No a/c. Just like today. No electricity. No refrigeration. No fun. No gasoline. No cars. Of course some really poor people in the back country probably never had a/c. Or maybe some still no indoor plumbing.
Taking our modern comforts away is a big eye opener.

Crazy Person
I read this posting on a blog a minute ago.
Of course some crazed preacher would say that God brought the hurricane to punish people.
New Orleans has been cleansed of sin
From Agape Press, New Orleans Residents: God's Mercy Evident in Katrina's Wake:
Rev. Bill Shanks, pastor of New Covenant Fellowship of New Orleans, also sees God's mercy in the aftermath of Katrina.
Shanks says the hurricane has wiped out much of the rampant sin common to the city.“New Orleans now is abortion free. New Orleans now is Mardi Gras free. New Orleans now is free of Southern Decadence and the sodomites, the witchcraft workers, false religion -- it's free of all of those things now.
God simply, I believe, in His mercy purged all of that stuff out of there -- and now we're going to start over again.
"We don't want a Supreme Court that is going to say it's all right to kill little boys and girls, ... it's all right to take prayer out of schools, and it's all right to legalize sodomy, opening the door for same-sex marriage and all of that.”
Shanks heeded warnings to evacuate New Orleans, and is currently staying with friends in the Jackson, Mississippi, area.

How long will it last?
It will be interesting to see how long the media and the public's attention remains on the hurricane devastation. It probably won't be much longer. We have a very short attention span.
After all of the rescues etc, and long after all of the media hysteria stops, the people of that region will still be homeless and flung all over the country.
This certainly has helped Bush to get the focus off of his fiasco in Iraq. Iraq? What's that. Oh I remember now. Cindy Sheehan, was that her name? She was at Bush's ranch......that has been lost in the hurricane. Bush must be praying for more storms. Get the heat off of me. At least he can blame the pathetic response to the hurricane on someone else. Maybe Saddam and WMD.

Hurricane
Finally after days there are boats, jet skis etc getting people out of the water and neighborhoods of New Orleans. And helicopters airdropping food to people still in their homes.
The Governor of New Orleans should have been on CNN the day of the flood and asked anyone with a boat, ambulance, food, water, tents, bus to go to Baton Rouge to be distributed. No one else's permission required. Get your rear end down here now! That would have saved so many lives and misery.
The 3 star Army General is awesome. He is getting things done. He is a leader. Not like the weanie Michael Chertoff the Homeland Security Secretary. We are in big trouble if that dingbat is in charge. He keeps talking about how they couldn't have planned for this...blah blah blah.
OK, so it took you by surprise. Be a leader, take the bull by the horns and DO IT!
The mayor of New Orleans was great. Stop having news conferences. Directed at Chertoff. In other words, the mayor got it, DO SOMETHING!

Hurricane Buffoonery
There is so much to say.
First, those poor people who 6 days after the hurricane have still not been evacuated. They were without food and water for 5 days. Amazing. There are still people trapped in their homes who haven't gotten any help.
The first two days, all the Governor of Louisiana did on camera was cry. Those people needed a leader like Rudy Guiliani. She did nothing. Food and water should have been airdropped immediately to the victims.
Anarchy in New Orleans. Raping, looting, etc. all because of gross incompetence.
I wonder what the reaction would have been if this had happened on Palm Beach Island where Donald Trump's house is located.
The mayor of New Orleans got fed up and said on the radio, no more news conferences.
Anderson Cooper on CNN read the riot act to the female Senator of Louisiana. He said stop all the back slapping and congratulations of each other, meaning the politicians, and help these people.
Then there's George. What a moron. The people don't want him to show up and tell them that help is on the way and that everything will be better one day. How about some water and food. And shelter? The Maricopa county sheriff in Phoenix has a jail that is a tent city. If he can house prisoners in tents why cant we quickly set up tents for the victims?
Everyone was asking why didn't the military airdrop supplies immediately. Their answer was that no one asked them to. Hello?
Disgusting. This administration doesn't care about poor people. Much less poor black people. Can it be any more obvious?
What if this was a terrorist act. We can't even protect our own country. But we can invade other countries and send all of the national guard there.
I could go on and on.
